A question that comes up regularly during weave purchases is how many bundles one must buy for a full head. The answer to this question depends on a few factors – including hair length, desired fullness, head shape/size and hair texture. We’ve put together a guide to help you make an informed decision on your purchase.
The longer the length of your bundles, the more hair you’ll need. That’s because, hair bundles are measured by ounces or grams. Typically, each bundle is around 3.5 – 4 oz, regardless of the length. This means that the shorter lengths, from 8 inches to 16 inches will be thicker when compared to longer hair bundles. The chart below provides the recommended number of bundles for various lengths.
Always remember that a wavy/curly bundle will seem a bit shorter in its natural state. However, when pulled from end to end, it will measure the full length purchased.
With curly hair, the density of the curl pattern will make your head look fuller – and so you can get away with less bundles. With straight hair, you will need more bundles to create a super full look.
Use of a Closure
If you decide to go with a lace top closure piece to create a completely natural look, it will take up some space and add volume to your hair. In such cases, 2 bundles will help you create a full look. However, if the extreme full look is your preferred choice, you may opt for 3 bundles.
